| I felt this was a great movie... everything seems like a real person's life. This is a "no budget", but it is a good flick... if you are looking for nudity, this is not the film for you. |

| What is it with Wolfe Video? Whatever it is, they've done it again: taken an interesting, worthwhile subject/theme and reduced it to low, soap-opera schlock. 200 AMERICAN begins a lot better than many Wolfe ventures: believable dialog, good performances, and a promising subject--guy rents hooker, gets involved. Then all of a sudden--15-20 minutes into things--the usual Wolfe coincidences start popping up and the writer and/or director begin taking those typical "shortcuts to happiness" that have turned most of Wolfe's backlist titles into trash. One example: When, in New York City yet, one character says to another, "I've been combing the streets looking for you!" (and apparently finds him within minutes), you know you're in trouble. Jobs are also to be had at the snap of a finger; romance-wise, there's a cover for every pot (as your granny used to say); and all ends as happily as can be--in only 80 minutes--for the prostitute hero and his chosen prince. One could easily let this one pass with a shrug, except that, as I say, it initially appears to have a little more on the ball than most. Ah, well? Wolfe. |
