Steve Coogan stars as Alan Partridge, a slow-witted and clueless British talk show host, in this acclaimed BBC series. Knowing Me, Knowing You With Alan Partridge comprised six episodes, which offered a witty but deadly accurate parody of the conventions of a typical television hat show, complete with eccentric guests and laughable musical numbers (many of the performers are asked to cover ABBA tunes at the host's request). The show also included one special Christmas episode, in which Partridge attempts to recreate his living room in the studio and share his holiday with the viewing public. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A-HAAAAAAAAAAA! by ZenBones October 10, 2006 - 2:43 PM PDT
The very talented Steve Coogan (Tristram & Shandy, 24 Hour Party People) is at his best as a talk show - or should I say 'chat show' - host who is sort of a cross between David Frost and Barth Gimble of "Fernwood 2Nite". He's so low rent that he relies on Abba's 'Knowing Me Knowing You" ('A-haa') as his catch phrase that is a running joke throughout the show (which personally, I never found tiring). Even lower rent than Alan are his guests who are something like the British versions of the provincial guests of Fernwood 2Nite only with better wardrobes (the production values here are on a par with Leno, which to me is pretty kitschy). I think it wasn't until the third show that I realized that the guests were all played by the same actors, and they all did a great job. The ultimate highlight is the Abba salute, which shows off Coogan's singing and dancing uh... 'talents'. If you like post-modern humour or just bad television, this is a big smile.
Oh yeah... the audio commentary is a good listen too, although Coogan is not on it.
