goth atheistic undertaker coffin joe terrorizes the timid town folk in his quest to continue his bloodline and prove the non-exsistence of god. "at midnight I'll take your soul" is a catalogue of the dastardly deeds he perpetuates, starting with eating lamb on a holy day and stretching to unnecessary eye-gouging. The whole enterprise is somewhat scupered by clunky direction (which could be a result of a hasty shooting schedule as much as hackneyed helming)but is still worth watching for it's single-minded, belligerent donkeypunching of social convention and dapper '60's stylings. Presumably a box-office blockbuster in it's native Brazil upon initial release.
Wow, this defines "stylistic" horror!

This may not be the greatest movie in the world, but if you're into style, you don't get much better than Coffin Joe, the cape 'n' top hat wearin' villain in this Brazilian horror show. The first 10 minutes are incredibly memorable, and worth the rent alone. The remaining hour or so is Coffin Joe a'killin and a'maimin', and then getting cursed by a witch he crossed along the way. Very cool low budget scary flick!
