Directed by the prolific Rob Zombie, The Devil's Rejects is a sequel of sorts to 2003's House of 1000 Corpses, and picks up several weeks after House left off. This time, the clash revolves around the tribe of violent lunatics and decidedly valueless family members of the original film, who have come to be known as the "Devil's Rejects." After learning of the extended family's horrific attacks, a SWAT team is sent to take them into custody; all but their crazed Mama escape. In addition to creating a full-fledged media circus, this sends the sociopath housemates on the run, and they initiate a deadly road trip. Meanwhile, Mama has to deal with a violent, vengeful sheriff (William Forsythe). The Devil's Rejects features Bill Moseley, Sid Haig, Sheri Moon, Michael Berryman, and Ken Foree, among other cult horror regulars. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide

Maybe I liked this movie so much because I'd just seen March of the Penguins (not a double feature! just recently) and thought: hmmm. There's a lot of similarities going on here. The things critters go through to protect their families in the face of life-threatening dangers. I was far more entertained by The Devil's Rejects too...
I sincerely doubt Rob Zombie was trying to scare people, I think he was just having some fun and making some strange personal statement on what's considered "good" vs. "bad" in society and how open to interpretation these concepts are. Basic philosophy 101 manifested via creepy characters. It's fun. |

I suppose Rob Zombie wants people to watch this movie and think, "Wow, that Rob Zombie is really screwed up and scary."
I thought, "Wow, that Rob Zombie is a mediocrity in yet another medium."
Not even the graphic violence is done well, with most of the wounds depicted (poorly) using CGI for crying out loud.
Watch this movie if you are not in the mood for a plot, message, or character development, but you enjoy people being debauched and sadistic in a restrained and predictable way. |
