In the spirit of Terry McMillan's Waiting to Exhale comes this romantic comedy about four African-American men enjoying the ups and downs of life, love, sex, and commitment. A quartet of lifelong friends, they band together when reformed playboy Terry (Shemar Moore) decides he is ready to get married. Meeting at their local bar, Terry's friends Jackson Morris Chestnut), Brian (Bill Bellamy), and Derrick (D.L. Hughley) use the news as a starting point to work on their own romantic troubles. Jackson requires intimacy but strongly resists commitment, and is put to the test when he meets the attractive Denise (Gabrielle Union), who harbors a secret past. Derrick is married himself, but unhappily, and Brian struggles to retain his bachelorhood and his independence. After his friends find themselves in various emotional states, Terry begins to doubt his decision to settle down. The Brothers is the first feature for director Gary Hardwick. ~ Jason Clark, All Movie Guide
