| The photography is good to look at and the honesty sometimes surprising. Fortunately, the movie is short because it can drag. Felix has some interesting things to say about life. |

this is much more a 'finding oneself' movie than a 'gay' movie. the fact that felix is gay is actually pretty secondary. his arabic heritage comes into play much more in driving at least some of the plot. he does have some guy-guy encounters, but those could just as easily have been with women as far as the point of the film is concerned.
one of the main themes is that felix is going to find his dad, whom he has never known. along the way, he has adventures with a few others whom he identifies with as sort of virtual family members. in the tradition of all 'quest' stories, each person helps felix along materially, as well as providing spiritual/personal lessons, purposefully or incidentally.
a fun film if you speak french or don't mind the subtitles. nothing really striking from a visual/cinematographic sense; glimpses of French countryside, but it's definitely not made to enhance tourism, or to celebrate the beauty of france.
i gave it a mediocre rating because i wasn't raptly caught up at any point, and i doubt that i'll watch it again, but hey - your mileage may vary ! |
