bacchus68 wrote a pretty good review, so I'll just try to add a little to it.

What I liked most about the series was the fact that it was so grey. There isn't this concept of absolute good or evil that you see in many shows. Everything seems to be somewhere in the middle. No absolute happy endings, nor completely tragic ones. At the same time it keeps you surprised. Just when you think you've figured out the formula, there is another little twist. My biggest complaint was the lack of central plot line throughout. Well now that I finished the series I can see its there all along, just really, really faint. That changes in the final disc where the central plot comes out from its hiding spot and bops you on the head.

All-in-all, I strongly recommend this series to anyone whether they are a fan of Vampire shows or not. The story has such a unique feel to it that it really should be tried. You may not like it, but odds are you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Like Buffy? Then watch this anime. by bacchus68 November 23, 2002 - 6:43 PM PST

This Anime series shares alot of the same story elements of the Buffy series(at least the horror elements and the emotional notes but it does not have the humor) and being a huge Buffy fan I find it quite enjoyable. It has a Teenage Girl(Immortal vampire girl actually) who is a guardian of the world whose role is fight the "demons" who sneak into this world. They are called Shinma. Miyu has a good Shinma who helps her sent these evil Shinma back to where they came from as well. She has a group of teenage "friends" where she hides her true identity from. Due to the nature of her work she keeps a distance from these friends in order to protect them but also needs their friendship and is drawn to them and humanity in general even though her other non human partners that help her in her fight can not understand her affection for those "humans". Like Buffy does the Demons of this series are used to show the falacies and vanities/insecurities of the human condition. I like the sad emotional and sometimes tragic underlining feeling of the episodes I've seen so far. This isn't a vampire series in the way say a hellsing series is an all out blood and action storyline but plays more towards the tragic emotional angles of each monster/victim. If you like your stories to have that feel then this show is for you. SOmetims a bit slow in parts and played a little heavy handed emotionally the series may not be for everyone but if you are a fan of this genre you should check it out.
