Synopsis
Premiering with a full-length animated Christmas special in 1989, The Simpsons went on to become one of the most daring network television series of the 1990s, skewering pop culture, politics, and society in general at every opportunity. Anchored by the tales of its five-member, four-fingered, dysfunctional nuclear family, the series grew to provide more and more story lines for its wealth of rich supporting characters. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

It's the Simpsons, of course the dvd is great. But the Commentary tracks for season one are almost a total failure. There are a few nice insights into the production, but almost no discussions of those cultural references that make The Simpsons exist at that level above a funny cartoon. The guys on the track, Groening included, talk about how they have not seen these episodes in ten years and spend much of the time just laughing.
