Synopsis
In this Southern gothic drama, Griffith (Dan Montgomery) has lived all his life in the poor Mississippi community of Pine Apple. While Griffith wants to move on and try to make something of his life, he's stranded in Pine Apple by his responsibilities to his crippled Aunt Summer (Karen Black) and his affair with his cousin Emily (Aleksa Palladino). A man from out of town (Walton Goggins) arrives and rents a cabin from Griffith; he soon finds himself attracted to the stranger, confronted by emotions he has never felt before. Red Dirt, the feature debut for writer and director Tag Purvis, was shown at the 2000 L.A. Independent Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Bad... just bad. by somlor July 10, 2006 - 12:35 PM PDT

I really wanted this movie to be good, great even. It was filmed in my hometown of Meridian, MS (not Pine Apple) during one of the years that I still lived there.

Sadly, it is not good or great... it's terrible. It's a clique example of waiting until the last minute to show any gay love. They show plenty of straight sex early on, but the very weak gay kiss comes at the very end of the movie and is over in about .4 seconds.

The only saving grace is that some of the shots are beautiful, like the opening shot is really nice.

The acting is NOT GOOD, the plot SUCKS, and the accents are TERRIBLE! Not convincing at all. There are huge gaps of time where the movie is just lagging...

Don't watch this movie unless you do so with the volume turned all the way down.

Both of the guys are really cute. They both go barechested and the taller one strips and you get to see his penis. Um what else...they fight in the rain!!! They don't make out, but bond through other guy stuff like work and sharing dreams--which can be hotter than just plain old sex. So although they look like diRRty good 'ole boys, they're really just good boys.

But really, this was really touching even though it's super slow...but it's in the South so it's really relaxed and the accents are so sexy. I don't know what was up with the crazy auntie...I skipped her parts. I believe she's funtionally retarded.

I hope you get this film with a film you know you'll like because it's kinda a bummer.
