Synopsis
Legend has it that when Mikura was born she came out of the womb with double-fisted pistols and a heart of stone -- but even the most hardened gun for hire can't help but feel the heat when a high-stakes kidnapping takes a turn for the worse in this action anime from Kite creator Yasuomi Umetsu. Though Mikura's crack team of specialists makes quick work of kidnapping baseball-team owner Momokichi, the team is soon surprised to learn that their target is not only a high-profile sports magnate, but a powerful crime boss as well. As Momokichi's henchmen close in on Mikura's team from every side, the stealthy assassin will soon meet her match in the form of her target's daughter, Momomi -- a vicious killer who will stop at nothing to ensure the safe return of her father and the death of those who took him from her. A television version of of Mezzo Forte called Mezzo DSA was released in 2004 without the explicit sexual content. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Mezzo Forte is a 2-part thriller about a threesome who hire themselves out for violent jobs. Kurokawa is the easy-going ex-detective, Harada is the easy-going android maker, and Mikura is the shapely teen who can fight six yakuza without breaking a sweat while offering the camera plenty of panty shots. Director Yasuomi Umetsu was trying to create an action anime similar to his earlier Kite but with comedic elements. Unfortunately, those comedic situations make already improbable situations harder to swallow and breaks up what suspense may be developing. For example, if you and your partner have just kidnapped a yakuza boss and are dragging him through the ceiling crawl space over his as-of-yet-unsuspecting underlings, do you have a rather loud argument while complaining about the boss' weight? (Answer: Noooooooo... and if you do, you'd make sure that the dialog was funnier.)

If you ignore the bad jokes and silly plot and mediocre dialog, there are a number of nice action scenes. Lots of people get killed, blood spurts at every opportunity, and there's the obligatory nude woman and T&A shots. If you liked Kite, you may want to watch this too. Personally, I wasn't thrilled and was glad that there were only 2 episodes to view.
