Great Fun for Adults!

I didn't watch this movie with kids, so I don't know how they would respond, but as an adult I can say that this movie is brilliant! I first saw this movie when in the first grade, and now, over a couple of decades later, I'm surprised to see how many jokes must have flown over my head at the time.

This is simply a great comedy movie, a great road movie, and of course, a great Muppet movie. This movie is psychedelic at times, self-referential at times, and the jokes are still fresh here now in 2003. How can you go wrong with cameo appearances by the likes of Orson Welles, Steve Martin, Richard Pryor, Telly Savalas, and many some great songs by Paul Williams! (Just try sitting through Kermit's rendition of "The Rainbow Connection", as corny as the lyrics are, without getting misty-eyed.) There is even an animal rights subtext, as part of the plot involves a KFC/McDonald's-like chain of fast food restaurants which specializes in frog legs and is trying to goad Kermit into doing commercials for them.

If you're having nostalgia for the Muppet Show, don't hesitate to rent this film. I was surprised at how impressive it is, all these years later. A classic, and deservedly so!

Extras: included on this dvd is an amusing "screen test", during which Kermit teases Fozzie Bear for not being a real bear, and Fozzie teases Kermit for having strings attached to his arms.

This movie really pointed out how kids movies have changed in last 20 years. The Muppet movie definitely challenges the modern child's attention span with a very simplistic story, not a lot of different camera angles and long songs.

Overall good, but don't be surprised if your kids aren't into it and have no idea who any of the 'real life' cameos are (try explaining Dom DeLouise to a kid). (btw, the title of this review is a quote from the movie)
