1. "Boy Meets Girl" This episode opens on the male planet, Tarak. We see a propaganda film showing women to be merciless reptillian creatures, who enjoying nothing more than maiming men for life. A general gives his troops a speech in which he informs them that the colony ship that brought their ancestors to this world has been fitted with a new section for use in an attack on Mejale, the female planet. Meanwhile, A third-class citizen named Hibiki must make good on his boast to his fellow mechanics that he can smuggle a fully-assembled mecha, called a Vanguard, over to them for their viewing pleasure. What puts a crimp in everyone's plans is an unforeseen attack by a band of Mejalean pirates.
2. "And...I've Lost My Way" The women manage to boot most of the men off of the ship, just as the male general orders its destruction in order to prevent it from falling into enemy control. The attack only results in a massive leak of the ship's crystaline fuel source, which not only fuses the new section of the men's ship to the pirate ship, but mutates the whole lot into a cool-looking new ship and strands it in a nebula located eight months away from home. The pirates must fight off an alien attack while deciding what to do with their three male prisoners; a doctor named Duero, a first-class citizen named Bart, and Hibiki, who finds himself having to justify his existense.
3."This Is The Path I Choose To Live" Bart passes himself off as a pilot, and Duero is drafted as an engineer, while the pirates pick up the pieces in the aftermath of the battle. The new combined ship exhibits tendencies of a living thing, and data retrieved from the enemy wreckage reveals dire plans for both human homeworlds.
4. "I Want To Know More About You" The sexes begin to learn astonding things about one another, as suggestions for a name for the new vessel are being taken. Hibiki is ping-ponged from one on-board job to the next after his latest "lone cowboy" victory over the aliens treads on the toes of the head Dread pilot (Dreads are the women's fighter craft). Dita, the cute UFO nut, steps up her amorous advances toward Hibiki.
Extras include openings for all four episodes without text superimposed on them (There are slight differences between them, see if you can catch them), character line art, and a pair of untranslated promos.
Action and humor abound. These episodes set up an interesting premise; separate the genders on two different colony worlds and see what societies they form in three generations' time. Why they split and are at war hasn't been fully explained, nor the fact that their spoken languages are identical while their written languages are vastly different, but flashbacks promise to reveal more as the show progresses. The whole Paksis Pragma thing seems more like magic than science-fiction, and a convenient plot device to weld the genders together, kicking and screaming all the way, but the message that they are stronger together than apart is a worthy one. There is enough originality and mystery to hook me on this series, despite the familiar stock character types. The CG used in external sequences tends to make the inanimate objects look more real than the people, and "Star Trek" fans will immediately recognize some of the sound effects used. Recommended as uncomplicated fun. |

in truth I wasn't intrested in watching this, but I was intrested form a fanfic I read from a fan of it and it made me wonder about it.
I'm not sure if I get it right...but it seems that the only plot it had was to get back home after a mishap of...well I won't spoil it for you...it's kinda dull if it weren't for the fact that enemies are chasing them kinda while trying to get back home and they have to fight back to survive.
the way it looks is neat...well when you don't see the characters that is...I mean the ships and outer space rocks...the characters looks...well...it's in an anime style...it kind of hurts looking at two different styles trying to blend in.
the crews personalities...well...well they have their moments...although since it's moslty a all female crew -and just three guys- and there's a bit of "we men/women hate the women/men" thing a bit...ah...I'm not a good describer of things to make you want to watch it...
I dunno about you, but I don't like the way of the women's figures...as in uh..."melon sized" breasts that would distract you while the part you watch goes on and you don't notice it as I observed as a friend of mines ogled looking at the womens chest while I had to slap her -yes a HER- to stop looking there and just watch and give a bit of comment. anyways...this is just the first DVD so it's hard to tell if it's worth watching it until you watch a few more episodes and decide for yourself.
however, I do have to admit that it was fun watching it a bit with some of the humor that's in there a few times. if you want to try it out, then it's your choice as I think my review is not dependable until I watch the other DVD's and make a better statement. (wouldn't hurt to look at anyways) |
