Supposedly almost legendary...

"Beyond the Darkness" will come across as a pretty extreme movie to American sensibilities though for Europeans, it's probably pretty tame. Beginning with the death of a lover, the movie first would appear styled in the vein of something along the lines of "Re-Animator" but as the film progresses, it degenerates into a necrophelia slasher flick. The best thing about the movie is the pseudo techno, rock score by Goblin. Acting-wise there's nothing to rave about and the film no doubt looses much in the English dubbing. I read much about director D'Amato and was very interested in seeing what the fuss was about. Though extreme in it's subject matter, the film never rises above conventional Euro-horror and while the gore FX is effective for it's time, it comes across uninspired at best these days.
