From a script by first-time screenwriter Benjamin Brand, filmmaker Greg Harrison helmed this fantastical, psychological drama, the follow-up to his 2000 Independent Spirit-award nominated debut, Groove. Courteney Cox Arquette (TV's Friends) stars as Sophie Jacobs, a photographer who is stricken with feelings of guilt and sadness when her boyfriend is murdered during a robbery. Haunted by a belief that she could have somehow prevented the death, Sophie soon begins to see things that ought not be there and is forced to question the reality around her. | What is NOVEMBER? Psychological study, thriller, photography thesis, love story, nut story, what? Rashomon-like (with all three versions from the same warped brain) and filmed in creepy hues of greens and magentas, this Greg Harrison-directed and Benjamin Brand-written opus has the virtue of being short (just over an hour, plus credits). Even then, the time spent seems barely worth it, with the exception of the opportunity to see James Le Gros once again. This charming, low-key and very sexy actor never appears to age and always gives a pleasurable performance, even in movies from the Don't-Quite-Make-It club, of which "November" is definitely a member. Countney Cox, unfortunately, is rather one-note, though this is probably due as much to the limitations of the filmmakers as to Ms. Cox. |
