Setting a North American record with 2,754 participants, Greater Clevelanders along with individuals from across the country and around the world gathered in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 26, 2004 to pose nude for artist Spencer Tunick. The setting for this recent installation by Tunick was the East 9th Street Pier where the confluence of Lake Erie, downtown Clevelands skyscrapers, a hulking retired ore boat, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Browns Stadium created a richly dramatic tableau for the landscape of thousands of nude bodies posed there. MOCA Cleveland and Spencer Tunick have produced this 20-minute 2-second DVD from live footage of this public art event, Tunicks first in the US following a monumental ruling by the US Supreme Court upholding his right to produce his controversial artwork in the public realm and using nude volunteers. Features interviews with participants and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
