An Incomplete Series Full of Potential by manuelvillanueva January 28, 2006 - 3:09 PM PST
I'm surprised this title received such mediocre ratings from members. This is one mecha anime I looked forward to seeing in my mailbox. Unfortunately, I did not see Pilot Candidate when it aired on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. The subtitled version was exciting with touches of humor building on the relationship between 15 year old pilot Rei (Zero) and Kizna, his female mechanic. Rei's dream is to become an elite pilot of the "goddess" Errn-Laties except he lacks patients to learn and suffers from a fear of heights! Fortunately for Rie, Kizna provides the support to help Rei reach his goal, thus the relationship builds. Just as the series hits full throttle it stops abruptly without an ending. We never get to see Rei pilot his "goddess," the development between Rei and Kizna, nor the outcome of their classmates. Watching the trailer is what hooked me on the series. Not many space anime add orchestral accompaniment (for the Star Wars effect). Plus, this is one of the few anime where the CGI had some sense of aesthetics. If they ever complete the series I'll be sure to see it.
