MST3K's humble beginnings -- original set and theme song intact -- are preserved in "Crawling Hand," in which Josh Weinstein provides the voice of Tom and the role of Dr. Erhardt. Alan Hale Jr. provides Joel and the green 'bots with plenty of desert-isle inspiration, in a film about an astronaut that loses a hand, which then takes on a life of its own. The guys ease their minds from this filmic disaster by referencing other famous "astronauts," and taking a few rolls down the lane. ~ Sarah Sloboda, All Movie Guide

| Not the best one to start out anyone new to the magic of Mystery Science Theater. This episode comes from their very first season, before the arrival of TV's Frank and before the real voice of Tom Servo that we all knew and loved arrived (Josh just was a bit more annoying). Also their writing and jokes didn't come as fast and furious as later episodes, they hadn't quite found their rhythm. All THAT Said, this still has plenty of funny moments. The movie itself is hilariously preposterously bad and would be almost as "good" without the MST commentary. Dig that James Dean method acting rip off by the lead. Dig the ridiculous plot and the way the hand magically propels itself in the air! Makes no sense but funny enough. Anyway, check out "Pod People" or "Eegah!" instead, for classic MST. |
