Sci-fi fans are familiar with the theme of aliens finally returning those who have been abducted (Close Encounters of the Third Kind). But this usually comes at the end of the story.
The 4400 opens with the return of abtuctees, and follows the re-integration of these people into society. Rather than glossing over interpersonal issues, these become the focus of the episodes.
The 4400 incorporates aspects of The X-Files, 24, and perhaps Taken, and while it fails to live up to each of these series independently, as an almalgam of the three, it is very solid, entertaining, and even provocative.
