| This movie is the perfect document to the mood and hysteria of 1980's Los Angeles. While graphically violent and horribly sexist, this movie has a style that is so compelling and stylized. For my money, this is the best Brian De Palma film. Featured prominently are such L.A. landmarks as the Hollywood Tower, The Chemosphere, Barney's Beanery and the pier at Long Beach. The most interesting part of this film is watching the transformation of Craig Wasson's character from a wide eyed struggling actor to a sexually obsessed man of compulsion. An interesting sidenote, this film is mentioned in Brett Easton Ellis's Body Double as one of Partick Bateman's favorite films, so take that for what it's worth. |
