Tinto Brass' reputation as an erotic filmmaker seems to finally be catching on in the US, which to me is a great thing. If you enjoy erotica and have yet to see a Brass film, this is an excellent place to start.
My favorite thing about Brass' female characters is that they are sexual in a similar way that males have been allowed to be. Too many films from the states confine males and females into limited roles, usually the male as sexual pursuer (or even predator) and the female as object of desire (or victim). Brass' women may be objects of desire but at the same time they seem to be more aware of how to use this power to fulfill their own desires...and their partner's.
Tinto Brass may not make great films, but he does make great erotic films. |
