Jet Li's Fearless back to product details

Well Worth Seeing

"Fearless" is a very well-done martial arts movie with the stunning choreography of other Jet Li movies - at least those filmed in China. The plot and action scenes are very well balanced, so that you neither get bored nor jaded while watching. It is not quite the masterpiece that "Hero" was, but an excellent movie all the same.

See this one before "Hero" if you can

Like many Chinese films (most of which never make it to the States) this film builds/pays homage to the mythology surrounding a great martial arts master and nationalist. It blurs fact and fiction, and the acting is very hammy and most of the characters very superficially drawn but the fighting scenes are a lot of fun. You'll enjoy this more if you see it *before* Hero, which has much better acting performances, is more visually appealing, and better written.

Humility

One of the best martial arts movies I can recall, JET LI'S FEARLESS ought rather to have been titled his "Humble," but I suppose a word like that wouldn't sell many tickets to the macho male crowd. Still, the fights here are extraordinarily well done, the humility is nearly tactile, and the story is full of heart and promise. If, as he has assured us, this is indeed Mr. Li's swan song to the martial arts genre, he could not have gone out on a higher, more entertaining or uplifting note.
