| This is definitely a twisted tale. No two ways about that. I'll first say that I had no idea what to expect. I was quite surprised and happy with the child actress' performance... her accent and attitude were really believable to me. Jeff Bridges certainly did fine with the short portion he had to do anything other than act dead in the film. The supporting characters were all done to my satisfaction. I think the story itself would have been a bit dull, despite the basic and twisted premise, if not for Gilliam's insane visions portrayed through the young girls eyes. I enjoyed the challenge of experiencing the movie through the eyes of someone who is pure and innocent, and has no idea of just how horrible the things around her are. If you are looking to challenge yourself to watching a movie that is unsettling to the core, this might be of interest to you. |

| I love Terry Gilliam's work. His movies are always aesthetically beautiful and often feature excellent performances and thought-provoking stories. Tideland is no exception. This is a very well-made movie. The actors are amazing (especially the little girl) and the scenery is spectacular. However, the story is so gruesome, so psychologically intense and creepy, that I had to turn it off after watching about 3/4 of the movie. It really freaked me out. Several days later I still feel like my mind has been polluted by the insane creepiness of this movie. I would have a hard time recommending this movie to anyone. If you do decide to watch it, be prepared for some excruciating weirdness. |

i highly doubt that any child would "see" these events in the tedious and boring way that gilliam portrays them he seems to want to go out of his way to create an uncomfortable and shocking film but it failed to shock me it failed to make me feel uncomfortable it failed to make me think i give it one extra star for the very brief fantasy segments that actually DID seem like something a child might experience the rest of the film is an utter waste of time |
