Synopsis
A woman haunted by the childhood car crash that claimed the life of her mother and father finds her worst nightmares coming true when she and her therapist travel back to the scene of the accident in this tale of terror originally released as part of the After Dark Horrorfest. Penny (Rachel Miner) has never quite been able to shake off the trauma of seeing her mother and father perish when their car careened out of control on a long and lonely stretch of highway, and now her therapist (Mimi Rogers) is determined to help the fragile girl overcome her lingering fear of automobiles. But as much as Penny might hope to overcome her oppressive phobia, she is about to discover that there is indeed very much to dread on this remote mountain pass as a murderous hitchhiker emerges from the chilly, high-altitude fog to prey on the frightened girl's darkest fears. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Nothing New - Stupidly Simple by EmpressStephanie April 9, 2008 - 12:35 AM PDT

I thought the lead actress was really great but no level of excellent acting could have made this better. There just wasn't enough of a plot line. I kept thinking there was some twist coming because the plot was so stupidly simple and straight forward, I figured - no way, no one makes movies like this anymore. There has to be something more too it.

(Sort of spoilers ahead - well, not really because this plot is so simple there is nothing to spoil...)

I kept thinking.... naaaah this can't really be a movie about an escaped convict killing people who pick him up on the highway... it must be the psychologist - maybe she's some sick sadist and wants to torture this girl who is afraid of cars.... or maybe... the hitchhiker isn't really the killer and he's actually going to save her and the killer is the local whose wife is cheating on him?....etc etc. The way the movie cuts from scene to scene and introduced new characters suggested that there was something more that the viewer should be looking out for, it's got a mysterious feel to it. Ultimately though, the movie really was just introducing new character to be killed, and there was no mystery to it at all. Except for maybe, how some weird deformed escaped convict managed to get a car stuck between two trees by himself.

Probably not worth the rental.

Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For (2006)

The Annual Horror Movie Festival by After Dark Films. This list is mostly for reference for horror fans to find all these movies in one place. Some of these movies are excellent but some of them are complete garbage. I'll update this list as I watch.
