There are a few movies that should be seen by everyone (who is interested in these things) and this, strangely enough, is one of the few. Like many of Jarmusch's films it ambles along nicely enough, for the average movie-goer this reads as "where's the car chase/girl/petdog interest and why is it shot in boring B+W?", and only really comes to life when Benigni appears. Ironically its the addition of an outsider who makes the chemistry happen, Waits, Lurie and Jarmusch are buddies in civie street; the film could have been a disaster, i.e. Fishing WIth Lurie (great idea but just plain crap!). So my advise is don't give up your reward will come.
