Really Great Cast, Movie Is Just OK
written by shiftless December 18, 2007 - 12:34 AM PST
This movie had it's origins in a short film, and was recast and expanded into a feature. And it feels that way a bit in several places. Also, this movie had a serious dead weight on it in the form of the score music between scenes. Such cheese and sonic cliche was very distracting and I had to try hard and ignore it. Soundtrack music also not to my taste, but I digress.

The cast is really great and they have a lot of fun with the dialog and characters. I laughed quite a lot in this movie but all the best ones come from scene-stealing Sally Kirkland as the protagonist's raving basket-case of a mother. She alone is worth watching this movie for. Jonathan Bray is a bit wooden as the leading man and does an OK job of holding the film up, but at the climax of the film, I did not believe him one bit. Deborah Gibson is in this movie(!). Was it a coincidence that all of the movie previews on the DVD extras had gay themes and also really terrible score music? Anyway, there's a bunch of really funny and talented actors in this movie, so I say watch it for that.
