Richard Gere's come a long way since his "King David" days and if he keeps doing films like this and "The Mothman Prophecies", his fans might be able to forget those rumours about his pet gerbil. Re-visiting the theme of adultery, Lyne has crafted a thriller that's less violence that the preceeding "Fatal Attraction" though no less potent. For some reason "Unfaithful" has an air of suspence wherein you know something dramatic is going to happen and you're just waiting for when. Both Lane and Gere are quite good in their roles and while the "affair" is very Hollywood-ish (much of the affair could only happen... "in the movies!") it's their performance that sustains your attention and grounds the film to being almost believable.
