Director Jean Rollin, taking a break from his predilection for vampire films, ventures into the erotic with Bacchanales Sexuelles. The plot centers around Malvina (Brigitte De Borghese, the leader of a sex cult in the process of being exposed by an investigative reporter posing as a member. The reporter, meanwhile, leaves his cousin Valerie (Brigitte Coeur) to watch his apartment. While there, Valerie and her friend Sophie (Marie-France Morel) have a liason of their own. Chaos ensues when the cult mistakenly kidnaps Sophie. Afterwards, Valerie and hehr sex-obsessed friend Fred set off to rescue Sophie from the clutches of Malvina. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide

| fairly erotic yet suspenseful story and fair acting. Female Vampire is better though. |

| I've read that Jean Rollin was a prolific pornographer as well as an eccentric art film director. This is clearly in the first category. Although many of his films have a lot of nudity, the skin factor is ususally subordinate to mood and atmosphere. With his skin flicks such as this, the plot is just a vehicle to account for extended sex scenes. I prefer his dreamy horror films like The Living Dead Girl and Requiem for a Vampire much more than this. |
