| Do I really want to waste my one-out weekly GC movie on a short subject? I had to ask myself this before moving TREVOR to the top of my queue. Well, glad I did, because this decade-old shortie still holds up. Artifex's review (below) covers the bases. Read it, and you'll know whether you ought to try "Trevor." |

The writing for this reminds me of a sort of gay kid's "Wonder Years." It may have even been intended originally as a TV pilot. Regardless, it tackles a couple of tough topics without seeming overly preachy or maudlin, and ends on a hopeful note. It's not brilliant, but you'll get attached to the characters and feel at the end that this was too short. And the underlying message it gives is still as necessary today as it was when it was released 10 years ago.
This movie won't convince bullies to stop beating up queer kids, but it will remind those kids that they're not alone, and encourage them to keep fighting for themselves. Some adults could use this lesson, also. |
