| I must admit that the idea of the film was quite interesting, which is why I rented it. But, I found myself becoming bored after the plot dragged on and on becoming even more repetitive. I fast forwarded the last quarter of the movie just to see how it ended, and realized that I really did not miss anything. I enjoyed the first part, but just could not handle it anymore. I probably wouldn't recommend this movie, just because it isn't something I can see myself ever sitting down and watching from start to finish (since I couldn't) knowing what it is about. |

| Check your brain at the door for this entertaining (but often ridiculously unbelievable) thriller written by veteran B-movie maven Larry Cohen and capably directed by Joel "Hit or Miss" Schumacher. Colin Farrell is well-cast (although his Irish brogue drops in and out an unnerving number of times), as is creepy Kiefer Sutherland, who was not the original actor cast for the role of assassin but is just right. It's the sort of gimmicky premise that Hitchcock would have loved (and in fact, he *did* love it -- Cohen pitched him the germ of the idea in the early 1970's but they couldn't figure out a believable reason why a guy would have to remain stuck in a phone booth for an entire movie.) I'm still not convinced that he did come up with a believable reason, but for all my eye-rolling (and exclaimations of "Why didn't he just..." and "How come they don't...") while watching it, it had me fairly well-riveted. |
