Secret Society back to product details

Had potential, but it got buried in the sap

This sounded like a cute little self-deprecating comedy in the vein of The Full Monty, but it's hamstrung by a terrible screenplay and a saccharin dose of "empowerment." Where other comedies of this sort invite you to chuckle at their protagonists en route to empathy, Secret Society hectors the viewer, demanding that you admire these fat women despite the new agey pronouncements of their fearless leader. The conflicts - between the wrestlers, between the main character and her husband - are trumped-up, and a silly subplot about alien invasion is neither believable nor funny. Although there's some decent cinematography happening in the fight scenes and the actors do not come off as repulsive, the only real reason to watch this movie is to satisfy a fetish for large ladies in the buff.
