Synopsis
This unusual, yet dynamic and deeply personal film from Czech director Jan Nemec is based on Franz Kafka's LETTER TO MY FATHER. The film follows Nemec as he attempts to engage in a dialogue with his deceased mother. While alive, she had a problematic relationship with her son, and LATE NIGHT TALKS WITH MOTHER seems to be Nemec's very public way of coming to terms with these issues. The director embellishes his film with many ingenious touches that light up the screen, with the linking of personal events in his life to major upheavals in 20th century history being particularly effective.
