This unheralded horror flick is REALLY creepy and deserves a look. It combines elements of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Carrie", "Psycho", "Maniac" along with wax museum/mannequin/possessed doll motifs. Chuck "the Rifleman" Connors plays a backwoods telekinetic psycho who murders people who stray onto his abandoned "tourist trap", an old wax museum. He then turns them into mannequins. (Don't ask how or why.) This also features a VERY hot pre-"Charlie's Angels" Tanya Roberts as a victim who spends the whole movie running around in a pair of denim cut-offs and braless halter top. It doesn't make a lot of sense and isn't gory or overly violent, but it's very atmospheric and unsettling. One of the best beginnings to a horror film ever, and the final scene is just...bizarre.

On one hand, it's your typical misyognystic horror rehash of some creepy lone man preying on lots of young attractive women. On the other, hey, at least he doesn't slash them outright. He covers his victims in latex/plastic goo to immortalize them. This movie also has that somewhat grimy, "old-school" 70s/early 80s feel to it in a b-rated sort of way. I personally like my b-rated films to exude ambience so that's a plus for me.

I saw this one on late night TV many years ago as a teen. One scene that stuck with me, the killer pours the latex on a woman's face and talks to her about how "you're not gonna die from having the air cut off, your heart will burst from fear," and then her heart bursts and she dies. So if that's your cup of tea, rent away.
