| Dead Reckoning is a by-the-numbers noir featuring the king of noir Bogart. His love interest is the queen of b-movie noirs Liz Scott (playing a part that clearly was modeled after Lauren Bacall.) You have every element of a noir - a veteran returns home - a dark night club owned by a shady character - a femme fatale - a cheesy musical number - but for some reason the movies seemed a little flat. Bogie is always a great screen presence and he is here too. The stunning use of light and shadow is a treat for black-and-white fans. |
