Not one of Arthur Miller's great plays: lacks the texture, character, and poetry of "Death of a Salesman" and "All My Sons" -- to which it owes the greater debt in terms of theme; namely, personal and political responsibility. But it's a pleasure to watch the crew of fine stage actors, with most performances persuasive and compelling. I saw the film 30 years ago when it was first broadcast on television, and wanted to see it again. Three decades later, the story still drew me in, though I knew how the play ended. The play had resonance, a sense of immediate importance in the highly-politicized early 1970s. Once again, unfortunately, it speaks to our present moment. Well worth watching.
