Soseki Natsume (1867-1916) is considered one of the pioneers of modern Japanese literature. His sparse literary style highlights tales of a word in flux, as common men struggle to retain their morality in times of modernization.

A Tokyo teacher moves to an isolated town, where he is tormented by the local students and faculty alike, Hilarity abounds as he struggles to adapt and learns a few surprising lesson about himself.

Kume Masao (1891-1952) was a student of the great Soseki Natsume at Tokyo University. He became a prolific novelist, playwright, and literary critic, and devoted much of his life to improving the state of art and theater in Japan.

Young Kenkichi is determined to enter a prestigious school. He sacrifices every waking hour to his studies, but at what cost?
