But after the 70s, his movies are pure junk. I continued to watch each new movies he directed in hopes of seeing something as nearly as good as "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage", "Deep Red", and "Suspiria". I was again fooled into watching another bad Argento film after reading a review of this movie in which someone said he had returned to the form he had in what is called Argento's Giallo years (1971-76) and Argento's Supernatural years (1977-85). But after watching "The Mother of Tears" I have given up trying to see Argento ever produce another good movie. This movie starts out great. But when
witches begin coming to Rome and looking as if they were extras from an 80s B horror flick, everything becomes rather laughable . For example, as Rome begins to lapse into a complete apocalypse, the public transportation in Rome continues to function perfectly as if it is just another day. Mothers are tossing babies from bridges and 80s style gothic witches are running about creating complete pandemonium, but the main characters are peacefully being carried to and fro locations and scenes via an uninterrupted public transportation system that is oddly unaffected by and oblivious to what is occurring in Rome. That is just one example of the umpteen issues you will notice when watching this movie. And the ending seems rushed and is about as ho-hum of an ending to a horror film that you will ever see. You would almost think Argento told his crew he had an appointment to begin making another film and told everyone to wrap everything up in a couple of days.
