| This is an excellent film that comes around full circle. Schaeffer's work attempts to tap into deep realms of the psychology, and with some success does so. The reason is partly due to the film's steady honesty, and seriousness. Sure and focused direction by Lumet. Of course, two grounding and fine performances by Firth as the youngster and Burton as the doctor. Few missteps, perhaps mainly overwrought scenes with secondaries, and a one-track theme that dulls some subsidiary possibilities. Highly recommended overall, though. |
