| Delightful and unexpected, in large part because of Mr. Smith's intelligent breadth of expression and perfect deadpan comic timing. His own worst enemy, the lonely and dispirited Hancock seemingly has as little choice over whether to save lives as he has over whether to give offense as he does it. In fact, although he believes he is immune to public outrage, he's so close to rock-bottom that he takes a chance on the advice of an irrepressibly optimistic PR expert who (unlike most people) responds with gratitude to being saved. Jason Bateman's sunny character believes he can repair Hancock's bond with humanity by offering a few simple, benevolent pointers. The movie has a surprising take on why Hancock is so painfully alienated and what can and can't be done about it. The dark humor has a light touch. Definitely worth a watch. |
