| Having only seen Greenaway's more popular filims (Prospero's Books and Cook, Thief et al) I was unprepared for the bracing, and honestly repellent imagery of this film. While I can appreciate the clarity of Greenaway's vision, I hated all the characters and found the tone distracting and at times irritating. I really tried to like this but found the director's intentional style to be affected and illogical. |
