Emmanuelle is the first and most infamous of the French softcore-porn series about a young woman's awakening to new sexual dimensions. Sylvia Kristel became a star with her portrayal of Emmanuelle, the suppressed wife of a diplomat. By virtue of her husband's profession, Emmanuelle is introduced to any number of handsome, virile men and beautiful, adventurous women, all more than willing to escort the sheltered young lady to the farthest reaches of sensuality. Nudity and eroticism abounds in Emmanuelle, but the sex scenes are discreetly photographed (shadows and elusive camera angles predominate) to evoke eroticism and suggestiveness in lieu of raunch. As the Emmanuelle series dragged on, the sex became more perfunctory and the storylines overladen with gimmicks; this film is comparatively basic and straightforward. Some of the scenes... ok, most of the scenes feel so forced. Many characters talk to fast (its in french, but you can feel the tempo in their words). It kind of feels like your watching a bunch of kindergartners playing house... they don't really know why they are doing something but just do it. That is the perfect description here. The sex is not terrible but it is nothing spectacular either.
The most intriguing is the interspersed conversations with very tantric philosophical leanings. Very occasionally they brush up against great but never really get there. Quite disappointing actually. Much like the ending. |

| well what more could you ask for from a soft porn movie. sex. nekkid girls. masturabation. beautiful nekkid girls. well i guess that's about it. trying to figure why movie's get made like this..is frustrating. i understand the sex aspect..but.. inside my mind.. it's such a waste to take film.. and not give it any plots worth watching.. give it any soul worth knowing.. and that's what this is. a soulless sex romp..with no aspects worth watching.. even the sex is tame. but such is the life.. that movies lead.. oh well.. skip this movie. unless your bored.. |
