The Animation is certainly ahead of its time, although by today's standards it may be seen as archaic (lots of superimposed animation, bizarre stock footage, etc.)
The film is definitely graphic, with lots of sex and bizarre violence. It also seems to be a bit racist -- but I'm not sure whether this was the intention. Maybe it was okay to use such epiteths back in the early 70's -- I wasn't even born then, so I'm not sure.
I think maybe being offensive was this film's main purpose. . .if so, it certainly acheived its goal. Worth the rental if you're a Bakshi fan, if you're easily offended -- then you're probably not! |
