Just when you thought the plot would never thicken, the whole thing congeals and Excel finds herself in the fight for her lives! With the Great Will held hostage, the city in ruins, the Punchuu running amok, and Pedro joining forces with Nabeshin to combat the nefarious That Man, the action is fast and hilarious as ACROSS finally makes its move in the final unbelievable volume of Excel Saga!

Excel Saga is the best parody that I have ever seen of anime, hands down. What's even better is that you don't have to be an anime expert or a native Japanese to understand many of the in-jokes -- the U.S. DVD producers have created "cultural notes" that will pop up hilarious explanations of many of the gags as they occur (turn it on in the Extras). The closest title that I can compare it to is Otaku no Video in sophistication and wit, but unfortunately Otaku no Video is from the early 80's and doesn't talk to a modern audience. Nothing else compares.
The episodes on this final disk are the best ones in the entire series, IMHO. Unlike earlier episodes which are more or less contained with each plot standing on its own (except for Pedro's soap opera, of course), episodes 22 thru 25 is a story arc about the Puchuu invasion, the ACROSS takeover, and Pedro's quest to rescue the Will of the Universe from That Man. I could not name the ton of anime parodied -- Starblazers, Captain Harlock, Queen Emeraldas, Mobile Suit Gundam, Fist of the North Star, Digi Charat, Dragon Ball Z, the list goes on and on. I especially liked the episode where Rikudo gives permission to not use any gags, which means that everything is played as a straight act and the hilarity is derived from the absurdity of the situations -- absurd compared to Real Life and absurd compared to our understanding of the Excel Saga universe. I'm impressed with how Excel Saga plays with our minds to create humor.
Then, of course, there is the final episode number 26. No, no spoilers from me. Just be warned that ... um ... well, Director Shinichi Watanabe DID want to leave an impression. I found myself watching partly in delighted fascination and partly in shock. Some people may find this episode tame compared to certain other anime out there (ahem), but consider that this was broadcast on national TV. Consider that there are moments here that go way beyond where Excel Saga has gone before, and you know Excel Saga has gone many places. Yup. Just sit back and be sure to hold on to your sensibilities to the very end... and don't skip the opening or ending title sequences.

| I have gone throught the entire list of anime that GC has to offer and I have come up with these titles that sounded interesting. I particularly like anime with comedy and action |

| A variety of anime I've seen that I recommend others see. They are listed alphabetically by series and then in the order recommended for watching them. |
