everything is there in this movie. singing, settings, shot selection, costumes, colors, dust, rocks, chairs, food, sweat, and fires. it inventively explores the life of the countryside during overtures and interludes. you can even squint a little and pretend that don josé is antonio banderas or eduardo noriega, sometimes he even makes a cute face to help you. so it should be possible to have a total fantastic carmen experience with this movie.
the question is: can you live with a carmen who can't dance? can you accept a carmen who is less hot than every other woman in the movie? if you can do that, you're home free!
if not, maybe you can just wait through the big chunks of the movie where she's wrong for the scene and just soak in all the great work they did, that could have been the greatest carmen of all, because it's really pretty. |
