| really a bad movie. I just had to turn it off and watch a documentary on public tv. The gore isn't interesting. It's like watching a porno without the porn. |
| Not just bad |

The movie may be bad, but it's also a great American original, one of the first of blood 'n' guts exploitation films, a genre as American as apple pie and John Wayne westerns.
This disc is much better than most Something Weird releases, their fondness for the film is evident. It's the only SW disc I've rented that includes a commentary track, and it must be listened to. Director Lewis and producer David Friedman reminisce about their careers, passing such filmmaker wisdom as, "We shot it this way because it saved us $75!" They are a riot - almost better than watching the film.
There's quite a lot reasons to recommend this film, even if its quality isn't one of them. If you've ever enjoyed slasher films, T&A horror exploitation, Italian giallos, bloody HK Cat 3s, Indonesian fantasy or any film described as "Mondo" then Blood Feast is for you. |
| I'd like my fake blood with a large side of cheese, please. |

It's bad. Really bad. But the overacting is hilarious, if you're into the really bad B-movie amusement. There is explicit gore for the time period, which I found to be Horristorically (almost as good as edumactionally) interesting. The actors seem to be reading off of scripts and cue cards to the point of distraction, the blood is impossibly red, the acting unbelievably exaggerated.
If that's not good enough for you, there is a completely bizarre short included on the DVD called "Carving Magic" which is all about how to correctly carve meat. I found this particularly amusing since I don't eat meat and watched it with two other vegetarians.
So...pick it up for B-Movie fun, watch it in groups and MST3K the heck out of it. Good times. |
