From the popular video series that features standup performances from such luminaries as Cedric the Entertainer and Steve Harvey comes this live video of the irreverent Dave Chappelle. Originally broadcast on HBO, the hour-long performance finds Chappelle tackling such targets as lawmakers, cops, and children's television shows. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

| I have listened and laughed my sides off to Chappelle on the Sirius Raw Comedy station, but did not find the DVD as funny, perhaps because I already heard the material, or maybe seeing him on stage took away some of the mirth. I think the same jokes would fly out of him (somehow more fluidly and less stiltedly) if he recorded the show in a place with an electric energetic mood, say sunny Los Angeles - not to put down drab D.C. For audience and performance together, I have to rate this lower than he deserves, though since he had control over the production the low 4 seems merited. |

Dave Chappelle is the funniest AND smartest comedian working in America today. bupbupbupbupba! Don't argue. It only strengthens my case and makes you look foolish. Is it proof you want? Fine. I shall educate you. First, and most importantly, the reason Dave Chappelle is the best is simple. He exposes hypocrisy and preaches unity. This in itself should be reason enough to prove my case, but I'll go on. Secondly, watch the reaction of the audience during one of his stand-up routines, specifically Killin' Them Softly. No, you aren't imagining things, that was a standing ovation you saw DURING the act. When was the last time you saw an audience do that? That's right, the State of the Union Address. Dave Chappelle commands the same respect as the President of the United States. While you ponder that, I'll leave you with one last piece of proof. Comedy Central just ranked Chappelle #43 of the 100 greatest stand-ups of all time. Who was #37?
Martin Lawrence .....now that's comedy. - 5 Leaves |
