Banner of the Stars Vol. 3: Only the Beginning back to product details

Fitting end to an excellent series

What a fitting end to an excellent series -- these last four episodes conclude the tale of Operation Phantom Flame and the battle for Aptic gate, and it's heart-thumpingly thrilling. There are new weapons to combat, a faceless enemy with unknown firepower, ships that get hit, incompetent leadership, sister fleets that may not appear in time, and will the Basroil really escape unharmed? Maybe, maybe not... There is no sugarcoating of death in war in this series. It's worth watching to the very end, and you will want to -- similar to the previous series, Crest of the Stars, there is an important tidbit dropped after the closing credits.

The Extras are excellent as usual, with writer Hiroyuki Morioka explaining what compromises he made to make close range combat possible and what happened with voice actor Kaneto Shiozawa, who plays Dusanyu. Also, for Crest/Banner fans, this is not the end -- Banner of the Stars II is coming out on DVD in the U.S. very soon.
