| I rented Shigurui wanting some anime ultra-violence, not expecting the historical depth and complicated story line that followed. Sure, there are moments of extreme violence, but they come in bursts that are very slowly built up. The soundtrack is sparse and can be jarring, and the story line sometimes takes too long to unfold. But with each episode clocking in at about 25 min each, this is an ideal anime for those wanting to enjoy a shorter series. The first disc focuses on the two main character's intense rivalry and training, which will eventually lead to their duel that takes place many years in the future. |
