Beautifully conceived and visualized and involvingly acted. Given the fragility of the original video source material, it deserves a better release and transfer. Critereon Collection, help!
A perfect movie.

I read ancient Greek. I love Euripides. I study this stuff in graduate school at Berkeley. I know that this film does not follow the play terribly well, but it captures its spirit and it is superb. The cinematography, the images do all the work Euripides' words did. Trier is to be commended for pulling off a Greek tragedy perfectly. For another superb Greek tragedy I recommend Michael Cacoyannis' Electra, which is also available on Greencine.
