Synopsis
Pablo Escobar was once one of the most powerful and feared outlaws in Colombia, a giant in the nation's illegal drug trade who gained remarkable wealth and no small number of enemies. However, while Escobar was a violent and ruthless criminal, he was also a husband and father, and when he was murdered by rival drug kingpins in 1993, his teenage son Juan Escobar announced to the press that he intended to kill the men who killed his dad. Years later, Escobar's son has a very different attitude about his father and his legacy; Juan has changed his name to Sebastian Marroquin, renounced the violence that was once closely associated with his family, and has befriended the children of Rodrigo Lara Bonilla and Luis Carlos Galan, Colombian political figures who were assassinated by thugs affiliated with Escobar and his operation. Filmmaker Nicolas Entel examines Pablo Escobar's criminal empire and Sebastian Marroquin's struggle to break with his family's notorious past in the documentary Sins Of My Father, which received its world premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, AMG
