Silly me, I assumed that this film might be as entertaining as the films "Blacula" and "Scream Blacula Scream," but it has production values that even Ed Wood would say are pathetic. And gosh is this movie slow! There's enough material for maybe a thirty-minute film, so the director padded this with countless shots of buildings, doors, people walking from one place to another... The film also lacks interesting characters, particularly the monster's creator who is not only NOT mad, he looks like one of those guys you used to see on TV commercials selling life insurance to the elderly. Marcus Welby as Baron Frankenstein? Well, his name is Dr. Stein, actually. Anyway, there are a few laughs such as the perpetual sound of thunderstorms even though the film takes place in LA. And instead of raping his female victims (which I'm grateful he doesn't do), the monster likes to pull out their guts and look at them, which is sort of cool, but even that gets kind of tedious after a while. I did kind of wonder why he didn't do that to the male victims as well but then, why question a guy with a gut fetish? The review above by All Movie Guide is correct except I didn't see any heads popped off, and I was watching real hard (anything to break the tedium). Trust me, this film MAY pass one day with Mystery Science Theater commentary, but unless you need something to help you sleep, stay clear of this one!
